Surrealism Montage
Surrealism was developed by the 20th-century literary and artistic movement. The surrealist movement of visual art and literature, flourishing in Europe between World Wars I and II. Surrealism was a means of reuniting conscious and unconscious realms of experience so completely, that the world of dream and fantasy would be joined to the everyday rational world in "an absolute reality, a surreality."
Traditionally, surrealist compositions have aimed to express the subconscious mind. The key method behind this has been the irrational juxtaposition of imagery. Now more than ever, photography has invaded the realm of fantasy. Photoshop has made it possible to rearrange two-dimensional images that can be constructed and reconstructed with endless possibilities.

Directions
Using a minimum of at least 4 different images, make a photomontage based on the ideas of surrealism (see above). Make the image look realistic, but one that could never happen.
Make your montage using layers, layer masking, blend modes and adjustment layers. Look at the examples above and at the bottom for ideas.
You can only use images from the following free stock photography websites:

- Produce a photomontage using Adobe Photoshop that uses a theme that revolves around the ideas of surrealism.
- Develop and utilize new skills we have learned in exercises with Photoshop using filters, layers, layer masking, blend modes and adjustment layers
- Use multiple Layers (4) with this image
- Save correctly to your Google Drive when finished and submit to Google Classroom as a PSD file for grading.
Watch the Video Tutorials below on creating a
Surreal Manipulation with Photoshop to generate ideas for your own project.
Basic Steps used to create your own
To start working open the one image you want for the background and bring the other
4 or more images into this one.
Make Selections and Refine the Edge to isolate a segment of the photo and then bring it to another image.
Add Layer Masks to these (just like we did in the last project) and using black as your color, select the paintbrush and hide (mask out) the areas that you don't want visible.
Use other things like Layer blend modes (just like we did in the last project) to alter the look of images. Adjust colors, make selections, use filters, and explore other areas of the program we have not looked at yet.
Add Adjustment Layers if needed to add different color, remove color, increase contrast of photos in a non-destructive manner.
Save as Surrealism.PSD to your Google Drive folder
Also save as a .jpg file as well to your Google Drive
Now Turn in BOTH of these files into Google Classroom
