Jerry Uelsmann Inspired Image
Jerry Uelsmann
The surreal, and thought-provoking images of Jerry Uelsmann, the master of photomontage, reveal the creative process and darkroom techniques of one of the world’s most acclaimed photographers. Uelsmann is a master photographer producing composite photographs with multiple negatives and extensive darkroom work. Uelsmann is a champion of the idea that the final image need not be tied to a single negative, but may be composed of many.
Watch this short video on the technique that Jerry Uelsamnn uses to create his photomontage images. (Photoshop is NOT a part of how he develops his images)

Techniques used to make this project...
- To start working open Photoshop and then one image you want for the background.
- Now decide how to bring them together. Should you make selections or use masking? The technique you decide on might depend on the images and how you want them to look.
- Maybe you'll make Selections and Refine the Edge to isolate a segment of the photo and then bring it to the second image.
- Maybe you'll add Layer Masks to these (just like we did in the last project) and using black as your color, select the brush and hide (mask out) the areas that you don't want visible.
- Use other things like Layer Blending modes (just like we did in the last project) and Opacity to alter the look of images.
- Use Adjustment Layers to make your images black and white, use Layer Menu > Adjustment Layer > Black and White and add more contrast by going to Layer Menu > Adjustment Layer > Level
Saving your Project
- Save as Uelsmann-Style.PSD to your Google Drive folder
- File Menu > Save a Copy and Save also as a .jpg file as well to your Google Drive
